Concerto Competition Information
The
Waukesha Area Symphonic Band is proud to present its annual Concerto
Competition. The purpose of this competition is to provide inspiration and
performing experience to young musicians. This is an opportunity for
students of all skill levels to experience the dedication and commitment of
an audition.
Eligibility:
All instrumentalists that are in 9th through 12th grades
and attending school in Waukesha, Milwaukee, Washington, Ozaukee, Dodge and
Jefferson counties.
Instruments:
This year WASB is opening up its competition to
all orchestral instruments. If there is a band accompaniment for the solo
piece, you may audition on any instrument; wind, percussion, string, piano
or harp.
Auditions:
February 20, 2010 at the Shattuck Music Center on the
Carroll University campus, 100 N. East Avenue, Waukesha.
Repertoire:
For programming purposes, the repertoire for this
competition may only be chosen from pieces that are scored for band
accompaniment. Check below for a list of recommended compositions.
Participants are encouraged to choose from this list or to research on
their own, other pieces with band accompaniment. (Exception: Works for
which conductor's scores and band parts can only be obtained through rental
agreements with the publisher, instead of direct purchase cannot be
considered for the competition. Please send questions regarding your

Entry Fee:
The entry fee is $15.
Deadline:
The deadline for entry is January 22, 2010.
Awards:
First Place - $500 and potential invitation to
perform as soloist with the Waukesha Area Symphonic Band at Carroll
University on Friday, April 30, 2010 performance.
Honorable Mention -An invitation to sit in with the band on a
selected piece.
